In Korean society, individual happiness and fulfillment of personal desires have become increasingly important, leading to a growing interest in human thoughts and emotions. These changes have been evident in the significant interest shown by the general public in recent psychological knowledge. Moreover, with the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), there is a rising need for AI design and understanding from a psychological perspective for human-centered approaches.
Upon graduating with an undergraduate degree in Psychology, individuals have diverse opportunities to pursue various roles within general corporate settings. Many graduates excel in positions related to Human Resources. Additionally, they actively contribute their expertise in specialized fields such as advertising agencies and consulting firms.
For those who have pursued the interdisciplinary program of Brain-Mind-Behavior or related fields as minors or double majors at Seoul National University, there are avenues to apply psychological knowledge in conjunction with technical expertise in Tech companies.
Graduates who pursue their studies in the Graduate School of Psychology typically find opportunities in universities, research institutes, and companies. After obtaining a doctoral degree, they often continue their research as postdoctoral researchers or research professors at universities. Some may choose to become professors themselves or work as researchers in major corporate research centers.
Furthermore, at the Department of Psychology at Seoul National University, there are abundant opportunities for research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR). Drawing from these opportunities, psychologists contribute their expertise to developing AI systems that mimic human behavior and to designing AI and technology to interact positively with humans.
Moreover, with increasing interest from domestic companies in talent development, organizational and industrial psychologists are making significant contributions in the human resources planning, personnel management, organizational culture, and training teams of companies. They are also sought after as key personnel specializing in HR management areas like recruitment and performance management, by startups and consulting firms.
Graduates of the Seoul National University Department of Psychology also actively contribute their skills and knowledge in hospitals and counseling centers. In the field of clinical psychology, there is a national certification system for clinical psychologists. Moreover, the system to certify counseling psychologists was generalized. Thus, graduates who completed a master's or doctoral program and obtained the required certifications work as clinical psychologists in hospitals or as counseling psychologists in college student counseling centers and professional counseling centers.
Lastly, as the employment of psychologists by government agencies has also increased, our graduates are currently employed in positions such as the Correctional Bureau of the Ministry of Justice, research institutes under the Ministry of Labor, research institutes under the Ministry of Railways, and the Korean Military Academy.
