사회정체성 위협 (성별, 사회경제적 지위, 인종처럼 중요한 개인의 사회정체성에 대한 위협)을 경험하는 것은 차별받는 집단의 건강과 학업성적에 부정적인 영향을 끼칠 수 있습니다. 이 발표에서는 사회정체성 위협이 어떻게 생리학적, 심리학적, 대인 관계적, 그리고 지역 수준의 과정을 통하여 건강과 학업성적에 부정적인 영향을 미치는지 살펴본 여러 연구들을 논의할 것입니다. 이러한 연구를 한국 사회의 맥락에 적용하여, 한국에서 사회정체성 위협과 정치적 불안정이 개인의 심리적·신체적 건강에 미치는 영향을 탐구한 최근 연구를 소개할 것입니다.

Perceiving social identity threat (i.e., experiencing threats to one’s important social identity such as gender, socioeconomic status, and race/ethnicity) can lead to health and educational disparities. In this talk, I will discuss studies investigating multilevel processes (i.e., biological, psychological, interpersonal, and regional-level processes) through which perceiving social identity threat leads to health and educational disparities. I will also present recent work applying this framework to the South Korean context, exploring how social identity threat and political instability affect individuals’ psychological and physical well-being.
